Pharmacists on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali are tackling a shortage of anti-coronavirus hand sanitiser by making their own unique, tropical version — from thousands of litres of fermented palm

A 29-year-old convict, identified as Ikhlas, was among those granted parole as part of Indonesia’s COVID-19 policy to avoid infections in overcrowded prisons earlier this month. Less than a week later, police arrested him for an alleged drug trafficking attempt in Denpasar.

Video footage of passengers jumping off the KM Lambelu ferry in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has gone viral, as the ship was refused permission to dock over suspicions that three crew members had contracted the coronavirus.

Following a heated polemic that’s mostly taken place online over plans to hold a Nyepi-like observance in Bali to curb the spread of COVID-19, authorities on the island today declared that the plan has been scrapped.

Bali officials have reportedly recorded increasing cases of dengue fever across the island this year, as the national death toll of the tropical disease climbed to 254 this week.

According to the latest Health Ministry data, the province ranks fifth with the most cases of dengue fever with a total of 2,173, as reported by Tribun.

The Bali provincial government says it has yet to consider imposing Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) policy, which requires approval from the central government, to curb the spread of COVID-19 here, claiming that it has already implemented similar steps to an extent.
