The human skeleton was reportedly found without its skull by residents of Sibanggede village in Abiansemal, who then reported the discovery to local authorities. Police said an identity card was found near the location, and later confirmed that the remains matched the details on there, which is of a 44-year-old man identified by his initial R.

I Made Supatra, chief of Abiansemal sub-precinct, said that R is originally from East Java but has been living with his family in Ubud, and that he had said goodbye to them to return to his hometown.

A family member told the police that the last time he spoke with R was in late April.

“After that he was no longer reachable by phone, and went missing suddenly. I know that R has low blood pressure, and I reported him missing on June 9 to the police in Ubud,” the family member, identified as Dyan Eko Saputra, said.

According to reports, police found pieces of clothing on the scene, as well as a bottle of  insecticide and medicines, among others. At the time of writing, authorities have yet to determine R’s cause of death.

On July 4, local residents from the same village accidentally stumbled upon a human skull near a river as well. Police are now reportedly investigating the possibility of a connection between the two recent findings.
