Tourist destinations across Badung regency, including beaches, are still closed until at least May 29. But that certainly hasn’t stopped some people from ignoring the closures, as seen in one video that gained traction online today.

The video shows two people on a motorbike approaching a sign posted on the entrance to Karang Boma Cliff in Pecatu, South Kuta that says “closed for visitor[s]” and later moving the sign to make their way in.

The footage appears to have been obtained from an Instagram story of a public profile belonging to a foreigner and reshared on Indonesian-based community accounts on social media, to the frustration of Indonesian netizens.

“Return them to their home country, they don’t understand the rules and are only making things hard for us. Be a little more strict, even if you reprimand them they will continue the same thing, there’s not a stop to it.”

With much of life taking place virtually these days, it doesn’t take long for online posts such as this one to make its rounds on social media. Those not following accepted measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 are quick to gain spotlight online, such as the case of foreigners ignoring social distancing and throwing a party on April 12 or local residents crowding the entrance of a bank earlier this week.

However, the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Badung told Coconuts Bali that overall, the public has been much more compliant in obeying the temporary closures that are in place.

“Until now the people’s compliance and obedience to the advisory and instruction has been pretty good, even when there’s small ripples that go viral, but overall it’s been much better,” I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara, who heads Satpol PP Badung, said.
