An officer at Kerobokan Prison was arrested on Tuesday evening for an alleged attempt to smuggle one gram of shabu (crystal methamphetamine) into the facility.

The officer, identified by her initials ER, was allegedly caught with the illegal drugs as she was about to start her night shift, shortly after she went through a security check.

Other officers reportedly grew suspicious during the check, as the phone charger she had in her bag appeared to be slightly open. When the officers examined the item they found a small package containing small, white crystals that are suspected to be shabu hidden inside of it.

“When ER was asked about the item, she said she didn’t know and that it didn’t belong to her,” I Putu Surya Dharma, a spokesperson from the regional office for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, told state news agency Antara yesterday.

ER, who is reportedly the wife of a police officer in Bangli, was then arrested by the Badung Police, where she is currently detained. Police are now investigating the case and looking into the origins of the illegal drugs as well as who it was intended for.
