With the holiday season just right around the corner, Bali Police says 12,000 officers will be deployed to secure popular tourist attractions, places of worship and points of entry across the island.

Chief of the Bali Police, Petrus Reinhard Golose, told local media outlets yesterday that authorities are already gearing up for the operation.

“We are already preparing from now, and we’re involving all of our personnel, including working with other relevant stakeholders,” Petrus said, as quoted by Liputan6.

According to reports, the Bali Police will also work together with pecalang (traditional Balinese security forces) and members of the Indonesian military (TNI) to secure the island around Christmas and New Year’s.

Petrus also stressed that there are currently no terrorist threats in Bali.

Though Bali has been relatively safe around the holidays, the threat of a terrorist attack still weighs heavily on the public’s mind after the Bali bombings of 2002 and 2005, which killed 202 and 20 people, respectively, and injuring hundreds others.
