Police in Bali arrested a Ukrainian man, identified by his initials RV, over the weekend for installing a hidden camera on an ATM machine located in North Kuta. He is suspected of an alleged skimming attempt.

“The suspect installed a hidden camera on the walls of an ATM center around North Kuta area, on Pantai Batu Bolong street,” Yuliar Kus Nugroho from the Bali Police told Detik today.

Yuliar said that RV was arrested on Saturday morning, after authorities received a tip-off on suspicious activities from the bank. The camera, which was allegedly put up on the side of the ATM, has reportedly been modified to resemble the double-tape used to cover electronic cables.

Police also reportedly seized a router and a credit card from RV during the arrest.

RV is charged with violation of Indonesia’s Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE), which carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison.
