Bali’s Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said two foreign passengers died after a boat capsized earlier this morning near Devil’s Tear cove in Nusa Lembongan island, while the ship’s captain is currently being treated for his injuries.

In a statement received by Coconuts Bali, the agency explained that the boat, Nagasima-Go, was taking its two foreign passengers around Nusa Lembongan (located just to the southeast of Bali) when a big wave hit and caused the boat to capsize.

A footage of the capsized boat has been shared on social media, showing the strong waves at the Devil’s Tear cove when the accident took place.

The boat captain, identified as 35-year-old Suadak, was able to swim to the nearby cliffs and was helped up by local residents. Basarnas said he is currently being treated at East Medical Care Center on the island.

However, the two foreign passengers were continuously hit by the strong waves in the area, and soon appeared to be out of breath and started to drift away.

“Another boat was passing by and they picked up the two victims, but they were already unconscious,” Basarnas said.

They were then taken to the local Puskesmas (Community Health Center), where the medical team declared them dead. Basarnas has identified the two victims as 48-year-old Caval Heir O Biron from Brazil and 43-year-old Victor Johannes Allers from South Africa, both of whom had been staying at D’Nusa Villa in Nusa Lembongan.
