Two teenage boys from Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), have been declared suspects in the alleged murder of a teenage girl whose burnt body was found last week. Police say the suspect who carried out the killing was in a relationship with the victim and was driven to commit the crime out of jealousy.

The suspects, identified as 18-year-old AP and 17-year-old LH, were arrested on Friday, less than a day after the remains of the victim, identified as Olive, were found, according to a report by Merdeka

Police say AP killed Olive by strangling her after finding out that she had been cheating on him.

“AP was heartbroken with the victim, Olive, because he found out that she was cheating on him with someone else. The suspect then asked the victim to meet, and they later went to an empty house,” Purnama, a spokesman for the NTB Police, said in a statement issued yesterday.

Police allege that AP and Olive had sex before they got into a fight, which led to AP strangling her to death. AP then tried to make Olive disappear with the help of his friend, LH, who allegedly bought gas and a sack for the body.

The boys then took Olive’s body and dumped it in a ditch before they allegedly set it on fire, as reported by Kompas

Police also allege that AP took Olive’s belongings with him, including her mobile phone, which he then sold.

Under Indonesia’s criminal code, AP could face the death penalty, a life sentence, or up to 20 years in prison. His alleged accomplice, LH, faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
