Two earthquakes strike off northwest of East Java, strong tremors also felt in Bali
Two earthquakes, one measuring 5.6 in magnitude and another 6, struck off the northwest of East Java this afternoon. Though quite a distance away from the Island of the Gods, the tremors were also felt in parts of Bali, including Denpasar.
No tsunami warning was issued for either quakes and there were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), epicenter of the first quake was 58 kilometers northwest of East Java’s Tuban regency, hitting at a depth of 656 kilometers at 2:06pm.

This was followed by another earthquake, less than half an hour later, that measured 6.0 in magnitude with an epicenter 56 kilometer away from the location of the first quake, hitting at a depth of 648 kilometers at 2:31pm.

In Bali, strong tremors from the earthquakes lasted less than 30 seconds for each. BMKG reported that tremors from the second quake were also felt in cities across Java, Bali and West Nusa Tenggara, including Denpasar, Malang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, and Lombok.
