‘Please don’t tell my mom’: British tourist detained for damaging property at Legian restaurant
Police said they detained a British tourist, who has been identified by his initials AJG, for causing a scene and damaging property at a restaurant in Legian, Kuta, on Friday. The same tourist was previously escorted to a mental hospital in Bangli regency for causing a scene in Ubud last month.
“We detained him on Friday because he caused a scene in Legian, he damaged a menu board at a restaurant,” First Police Inspector I Putu Ika Prabawa said yesterday, as quoted by Detik.
Ika explained that he was detained for the sake of security, and added that he also damaged some of the things in his jail cell.
“We were forced to detain him until he’s calm. Coincidentally, a friend came to pick him up and the victim [of the incident] was willing to forgive,” Ika said.
AJG was released yesterday afternoon, after a friend reportedly vouched for him.
According to a report by Detik, AJG is a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and Australia who has been living in Bali for a couple of months.
Last month, authorities escorted AJG to Bangli Mental Hospital after he scenes at multiple health clinics in Ubud, allegedly because he was unable to pay for his medical bills.
AJG told Detik that there’s been “crazy things” happening recently, and said that the incident at the restaurant happened because of a misunderstanding about a bill.
“Please don’t tell my mom, I drank several glasses of orange juice and alcohol, and police brought me here [but] I’ve been released,” AJG said.
