Earlier today, Denpasar Police confirmed the arrest of a man, who authorities have identified as an ice seller with the initials WS, for allegedly stealing a gun belonging to the chief of the Negara Police.

“Our investigation showed that the car was pried open, and at this time we have made an arrest. The suspect appears to be skilled in prying cars open,” Police Commissioner I Wayan Arta told state news agency Antara

Police Deputy Commissioner I Ketut Maret, who is chief of the Negara Subdistrict Police in Jembrana regency, said he was at Pura Sakenan Hindu temple in Denpasar on Aug. 3 when he discovered that his car had been pried open and that his personal items were missing.

According to Maret, he left his gun in his personal vehicle when he went to worship at the temple and that it was was stolen along with his wallet, identity card (KTP) and police officer card (KTA).

Arta said WS allegedly pried open several other cars around Pura Sakenan that day, which led them to suspect that he is skilled in the task.

Denpasar Police reportedly received a tip-off about the sale of a gun that was set to happen at a Denpasar night market, which ultimately led them to WS. WS reportedly told authorities that the gun he intended to sell was the one that belonged to Maret.

“The suspect confessed to the theft, and said he did it by prying open the car parked around Pura Sakenan’s parking area and that he threw away the victim’s bag at a ditch. He’s now in the custody of the Denpasar Police,” Denpasar Police spokesman, Muhamad Nurul Yaqin, told Kumparan.
