Police investigating alleged theft of Negara Police Chief’s gun from his car
A gun belonging to the chief of the Negara Police was reportedly stolen on Saturday from his private vehicle, prompting authorities to launch an investigation to find the culprit.
“We are still investigating … We are still looking for the whereabouts of this [stolen] weapon,” Police Chief Commissioner Ruddi Setiawan, who heads the Denpasar Police, told Kumparan yesterday.
In a video uploaded by Bali Post, officers from the Denpasar Police appear to be examining the officer’s car from which the items were stolen. They have a locksmith with them as well.
As reported by local media outlets, the car and gun belong to Police Deputy Commissioner I Ketut Maret who left the weapon in his personal vehicle when he went to worship at a temple in Denpasar on Saturday night. Maret is the chief of Negara Police in Jembrana regency.
According to Maret, he went back to his car to discover that it had already been pried open and that his personal items were missing.
In addition to the gun (which was reportedly loaded with bullets), police say the thief also took Maret’s identity card (KTP), police officer card (KTA) and his wallet.
