Man arrested in Bali for allegedly stealing HIV medication worth thousands of dollars from ex-boyfriend
Police in Bali recently arrested Siswantoro, a 36-year-old man from Jombang, East Java, for allegedly breaking into his ex-boyfriend’s house and stealing his HIV medication, which authorities said was worth millions of rupiahs.
“Maybe it was jealousy. The suspect said he’s angry because [the ex-boyfriend] never answered his calls and can’t be contacted,” First Inspector Androyuan Elim from North Kuta Police told Kompas.com.
Police said the incident took place on June 24, while the ex-boyfriend, identified as Italian national Canavacciulo by local media, was reportedly away from his home. While Canavacciulo had his room locked, he did not do the same for his closet, where he reportedly stored his HIV medication.
By the time he returned to his house, he found his doors unlocked, his closet opened, and his medication missing. The 53-year-old went to the police to file a report, and Siswantoro was arrested on June 27.
“It was HIV medication, but we don’t yet know why [Siswantoro] stole the medication, whether it was going to be put up for sale or something else, we’re still looking into it,” Androyuan said.
Androyuan added that the HIV medication, which was reportedly obtained abroad, was worth IDR 75 million ($5,299).
