Police say a masked thief with a gun robbed an Alfamart in Kerobokan, North Kuta, on Sunday evening and took millions of rupiah from the convenience store’s cashier.

According to a report from Tribun-Bali, the thief, who wore a motorcycle helmet, had loitered in front of the store for some time before heading inside and pointing what appeared to be a gun to the cashier.

He then demanded the Alfamart employee open the cash register.

“Out of fear from being threatened with a gun, Komang Santi, who was on duty at the time … opened up the cash register, and the thief took the money inside it,” a source told Tribun-Bali.

The Alfamart reportedly lost IDR 2.3 million (USD 161.51). North Kuta Police confirmed that the incident had indeed taken place and that authorities were investigating.

Tribun-Bali also reported that a similar robbery attempt took place on June 5 at a Kimia Farma Pharmacy in West Denpasar. According to the report, the pharmacy employees had been able to foil the attempt.
