Bali’s tourism industry continues to attract significant attention with at least four international airlines reportedly requesting for additional flights to the island.

The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, recently revealed a significant surge in interest from international airlines towards expanding flight schedules and routes to Bali.

“By early December 2023, Xiamen Airlines is set to introduce additional flights originating from various cities in China. Bali remains a highly sought-after destination for international airlines, marking an exceptional period of growth,” said Handy, as quoted by Antara news agency yesterday.

Aside from Xiamen Airlines, which is planning to expand its flights starting Dec. 1, 2023, Heryudhitiawan disclosed ongoing communication with airlines from the United Arab Emirates and India.

Notable among these discussions are carriers Etihad Airways, Vistara, and IndiGo. All four airlines have resumed operations to Ngurah Rai Airport following the post-pandemic reopening of international routes.

“After Xiamen Airlines, the other three airlines are anticipated to increase their flight frequencies in early 2024. This demonstrates the robustness of Bali’s market, as several airlines are considering upgrades to larger aircraft models,” Handy remarked.

Presently, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport caters to 36 international airlines, servicing 30 routes, alongside 13 domestic carriers operating 19 routes within the country.

The airport handles an average of 65,000 passengers daily, with around 400 aircraft movements, illustrating the bustling nature of its air traffic.
