An Australian grandmother has died in Bali after falling down stairs at a local market and into a glass, according to local police.

Rita Myrsel Lubin, 77, was at a traditional

market that sells souvenirs, jewellery accessories and art items near the Seriska Villa when the accident occurred.

Local media reports she lost her balance and fell when walking down a staircase and suffered major cuts after she hit a glass cabinet at the bottom of the stairs.

Family and locals tried to help before she was taken to Bali Mandara Hospital.

“The victim’s life could not be saved,” Bali police officer AKP Sukadi said.

“The victim suffered lacerations to her left arm and upper left back which is thought to have caused the victim to die,” he said.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) spokesperson said the government was providing ?consular assistance to the family of an Australian woman who died in Bali.

“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” the spokesperson said.

“Owing to our privacy obligations we cannot provide further comment.”
