A man from the UK was found dead yesterday in a swamp in Denpasar, local authorities confirmed.

The police suspected that MA, 36, was a road accident victim.

“The victim’s identity was obtained from a driver’s license in a wallet that was found in the location,” South Denpasar Police Chief Comr.

Gede Sudyatmaja said.

The lifeless body of MA was discovered face down in a swamp near a landfill by local residents at around 10am yesterday. In addition to the driver’s license, the police also found an ATM card, a COVID-19 vaccination card, a room key, and some cash.

MA’s fiancée, IP, 36, identified the victim from a tattoo on his right arm. The woman told the authorities that MA went out to a nightclub in Legian on Friday night. At around 1am on Saturday, MA texted IP and said he would go home soon.

That was the last time IP heard from her groom-to-be.

After noticing that MA never returned home in the morning, IP tried to contact him but his phone had gone dead. IP’s employee later told her that his motorbike was found near the Suwung landfill in South Denpasar.

Gede said that they suspected that the victim’s body was thrown to the river and got swept away into the swamps, where his body was found.
