A Denpasar police officer has been dismissed from his post following an alleged assault against a female employee at a local nightclub, which authorities say they are investigating.

The officer was removed from his post on the basis of him being at a nightclub, a violation for police officers that is exempted only for official police assignment, according to Denpasar Police Chief Jansen Avitus Panjaitan.

“This is a show of firmness because [police] officers are prohibited from visiting entertainment venues, with the information we gathered the officer in question admitted to have paid a visit [to a nightclub],” Jansen said.

The officer, who is a member of the mobile detective unit at the Denpasar City Police, is now undergoing an internal investigation at the Bali Police, Jansen added.

His removal can still be annulled should he be found not guilty after the investigation, according to Jansen. Meanwhile, police are still looking into his alleged assault of a female employee at a Denpasar nightclub, though they have yet to receive an official complaint about the incident.

According to local media outlets, the assault incident occurred last Tuesday evening against a woman identified as YA, who reportedly sustained bruises as a result.

“If there’s an assault someone must have been harmed, when there is no one harmed the incident is not considered. Until now we have yet to receive a report,” Jansen said yesterday.
