Nearly 77 percent of the student body at the Polytechnic of Land Transportation (Poltrada) in Bali have been diagnosed with COVID-19, an official said yesterday, making the campus the latest coronavirus cluster in the province.

At a press conference, the COVID-19 task force in Tabanan regency, where the school is located, said that 238 students are now in isolation at the campus dorm. Fearing wider transmission in the community, the local government has asked the traditional villages to assist in monitoring the area.

According to Bambang Wijonarko, Poltrada Bali Director, the students only came to school for an introduction session, which was scheduled for two weeks. Prior to coming to campus, the students had already undergone swab testing from their respective districts.

However, when another mass swab test was conducted on campus, they eventually found that 238 out of 311 students tested positive for the coronavirus.

Bali reported a record daily tally yesterday with 230 cases, bringing the provincial total to 14,568.

Correction: An earlier version of this article reported that the provincial total of COVID-19 cases on Dec. 3 was 14,569. In fact, it was 14,568, according to data from the Bali provincial government. We apologize for the error.
