The Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) issues a temporary ban on foreign nationals from entering or transiting in Indonesia. This was done as an effort to prevent the spread

of the COVID-19 virus in the country. According to the Law and Human Rights Ministerial Regulation (Permenkumham) No. 11/2020.

As quoted from the press release of the Immigration Office, Menkumham Prof. Yasonna H Laoly said that this ban applies with six exemptions.

The six exemptions include foreigners who hold limited and permanent residence permits, diplomatic official, medical, food supplies, sea, air, and land transportation crew, as well as for foreigners who will work on national strategic projects.

Therefore, the government requires exempted foreigners to have a health certificate issued by the health authorities of each country, stay in regions or countries without COVID-19 cases for at least 14 days, and agree to a 14-day quarantine measure held by the Indonesia Government.

In addition, the Permenkumham also contains regulations for foreign national residing in Indonesia.

Foreigners whose visitor’s visas and limited and permanent residence permits have expired, to stay in the country without having to apply for an extension at an immigration office. Without any charge.

This regulation will take effect on April 2, 2020, and will be terminated after the authority declares that the condition is safe for the public.
