AirAsia set to reopen 4 routes from Bali in September
Low-cost carrier AirAsia is set to reopen four routes from Denpasar starting next month, as the airline gradually resumes flights amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Like most airlines, AirAsia temporarily suspended operations at the onset of the coronavirus outbreak.
It began resuming operations in mid-June with limited flights, and is now entering its third month.
From Sep. 1, passengers can once again fly AirAsia to travel from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport to other popular destinations in the country, such as Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Yogyakarta.
“We are working hard to gradually normalize operations for our customers’ favorite routes, starting with reopening flights from our hub in Bali to Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Yogyakarta, and Solo on Sept. 1,” Indonesia AirAsia CEO Veranita Yosephine Sinaga said in a statement.
The Indonesian government has been encouraging domestic travel to revive the national tourism industry, even though there has been no considerable decrease of the COVID-19 daily count across the country.
Bali, for example, started welcoming domestic tourists at the end of last month, a move officials deemed as necessary for the province’s economic recovery, which has been severely impacted by the decline in tourism.
