The story of an Australian couple’s Bali wedding in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic is going viral and shaking heads in Indonesia as seven attendees were confirmed to have been infected with the virus.

Local authorities reportedly used an amusingly unconventional method to disperse the crowd in Kedonganan Beach recently, after some people evidently ignored the closures of local beaches to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Bali.

President Joko Widodo says he’s convinced that the COVID-19 pandemic will be resolved by the end of this year and adds that he is expecting tourism to take off in 2021.

Bali’s COVID-19 caseload has increased to 113, with 15 additional cases confirmed today.

The latest tally includes 32 recoveries and 2 deaths of foreign nationals, according to the latest data published by Indonesia’s Health Ministry.

Local authorities, reportedly while on patrol to curb the spread of COVID-19, apprehended eight sex workers who were soliciting on the Bung Tomo Street in Denpasar earlier this week. 

“We conducted a sex worker raid as a follow-up to complaints from local residents about preventing the spread of COVID-19 [and] HIV/AIDS,” Anom Sayoga, who heads the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Denpasar,

An official from the Bali administration has urged the island’s residents to stop stigmatizing Indonesian migrant workers as “COVID-19 carriers,” following alleged reports of discriminatory practices among the public. 

“There’s an impression among the people that they (migrant workers) are disease carriers.
