It was just another day of doomscrolling on Twitter for us when we noticed some people sharing their recent discovery of a hidden gem in Sanur that immediately piqued our curiosity.

Kolaborasi Untuk Desa (KooD), which directly translates to “collaboration for the village,” is a plant-based canteen serving affordable dishes, with the most expensive item on their menu costing only IDR35K (US$2.39). It’s no secret that many vegan dishes in restaurants usually come with a pretty hefty price tag, so these budget prices are definitely a point of interest for us.

KooD’s best-selling item is their Yamin Noodle, but they have a variety of choices from Miso Ramen to Peanut Butter Noodle, all of which cost only IDR10K per serving, and IDR18K for a double serving. Aside from the noodle dishes, they’ve got Egg Sandwich (IDR20K) made with plant-based egg, and a Soba Salad (IDR15K) served with goma miso garlic salad dressing. There’s no rice dishes here, which is perfect for those who are cutting down on carbs.

For the breakfast fiends out there, KooD also offers Granola Bowl (IDR 20K), comprising of oven-baked granola, banana milk, chia pudding and fruits, as well as a Cereal Bowl (IDR 20K) containing sweet sorghum puff served with milk and fruits. In the mood for vegan gelato? They’ve got a variety of flavors, such as rosella lime, choco mint, and stracciatella (vanilla gelato with chocolate shavings mixed in), for only IDR8K per scoop.

The canteen says they don’t use oil or white sugar, so God help us for being excited about their Roti Bantal or pillow bread (IDR8K), sweet potato Brownies (IDR5K), and Banana Bread (IDR4K). KooD also offers a variety of “mylk” or plant-based milk, which comes in 600ml bottles for their original/plain (IDR16K) and chocolate (IDR19K) flavors.

As if those food options aren’t enticing enough, KooD also doubles as a co-working space on its second floor. Guests can access the co-working space for IDR40K, which includes a food and drink voucher to use on the first floor. There’s also a library right next to the co-working space, which really adds to the wholesome vibe we’re getting just from learning about their offerings.

But wait, there’s more: there’s a bulk store selling a variety of goods, including native cashews with Kimchi (IDR59K) and Turmeric (IDR56K) flavors, among others. In addition, the restaurant offers free-flow water and rosella tea for guests at a self-serve station, which gives them more points in our books as too many restaurants in Indonesia simply don’t do this enough. And yes, KooD is a self-serving restaurant, so don’t forget to clear the tables after your meals.

We’re still staying at home just to be safe, but we’ll be sure to hit the road and check out KooD when the coast is clear. Will you be saving this one for your next to-go place, Coconauts? Let us know in the comments.
