‘Recovered’ COVID-19 patient dies 6 days after being discharged from NTB hospital
A 21-year-old woman died of kidney disease in Bima regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), six days after being discharged and declared as having “recovered” from COVID-19 by the hospital she was treated in.
The patient, identified as Iko Rahmawati, died on Monday, as confirmed yesterday by Rifai, an official with the Health Agency and a member of the COVID-19 task force in Bima regency.
Rifai said that Iko died due to kidney disease and not because of the coronavirus.
“Her swab test came out negative. So this patient did not die because of [coronavirus]. According to a doctor in Mataram General Hospital, she was diagnosed with a kidney disease [and died because of it],” Rifai said.
According to reports, Iko was confirmed to have been infected with the coronavirus after a trip to South Sulawesi, and she was treated for about a week in the isolation ward at Bima General Hospital.
The hospital declared Iko “recovered” after her last swab test, and she was reportedly allowed to return home six days ago.
NTB has reported 392 COVID-19 cases so far, including 244 recoveries and 7 deaths.
