Police arrest German for allegedly punching driver in Seminyak
Police yesterday said that a German national has been named a suspect for allegedly assaulting a tour driver in Seminyak after they got into a fight over a minor traffic collision.
“Yes, he’s been named suspect in this case,” Teuku Ricki Fadlianshah, Kuta Police Chief, told state news agency Antara.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Adil Chaaboute by local news outlets, while the victim was identified as I Gede Dharma Jaya.
Teuku explained that the incident occurred earlier this week on Monday, when Chaaboute allegedly brushed his motorcycle against Dharma’s car. Dharma then got out of his car and chastised the foreigner for failing to slow down despite having seen his car coming.
“Then the suspect became angry and pushed the victim,” Teuku said, adding that Chaaboute threw a punch at Dharma after.
Chaaboute was arrested on Wednesday. Though he admitted that he’d pushed Dharma, he said he did not hit the victim. He was charged with violation of Article 351 under Indonesia’s criminal code (KUHP), which carries a maximum sentence of two years and eight months in prison.
