Police has named a 46-year-old man, identified as Muslim, in the Sumbawa Island of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) as a homicide suspect after the mutilated remains of his wife were found last week.

“The identity of the suspect is Muslim, also known as Banjir,” Artanto, spokesman from NTB Police, said in a statement.

Police found the mutilated remains of the victim, identified as 44-year-old Siti Aminah, stuffed in a styrofoam box and fridge last Friday. The victim’s head and torso was found in the box, while her limbs were found in the fridge.

As reported by Kompas, the case came to light after neighbors smelled something foul coming from the couple’s house. Muslim, who was not at home at the time, was notified by his neighbor about the stench.

Muslim then reportedly went back home in what appears to be an attempt to create an alibi for himself, as he was the one who filed a police report after “discovering” the mutilated remains of his wife.

Police then proceeded with investigation into the case and reportedly questioned 21 people, including Muslim, and announced their findings yesterday.

“For now we suspect that he might be driven by jealousy, but we are still looking into it,” Faesal, who heads the crime unit in Sumbawa Police, told Detik today.

Muslim was charged with premeditated murder under Indonesia’s Criminal Code (KUHP), which carries a maximum sentence of lifetime imprisonment.
