American fitness subscription service ClassPass is expanding its portfolio in Asia by adding Bali into its network, tapping into a vibrant market of active tourists and giving them easy access to some of the island’s best fitness studios, wellness centers and spas.

Sam Canavan, ClassPass General Manager for Asia Pacific and the Middle East, told Coconuts Bali on the sideline of the launch event in Canggu earlier today that the company’s been getting a lot of demand to come to Bali.

“So many people have been asking us about Bali […] So we had everyone from the Aussies, the Singaporeans, the Jakartans, the Thais, knocking on our door saying, ‘Why aren’t you in Bali yet?’” Canavan said.

“To be honest, we should’ve already been here – but better late than never to come to Bali.”

Founded in 2013, ClassPass now has over 30,000 partner studios and gyms and operates in 26 countries. In the region, its city network includes Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, as well as Hong Kong. Members can use the service in any of the cities within the ClassPass network.

In Bali, ClassPass is launching with about 80 studios on board and says it plans to increase that to more than a hundred by the end of this year. This latest launch makes Bali ClassPass’ second city in Indonesia, after it acquired GuavaPass and effectively started operating in Jakarta earlier this year.

New ClassPass members apparently get 7-day free trial upon signing up, while available monthly plans start from IDR129,000 and go up to IDR909,000. A membership works like this: members get a monthly allotment of credits according to their chosen plans, which can be used to book any experiences they want; but note that different classes have varying credit values. In addition, members also get to book wellness experiences and beauty treatments as part of the service, including massages.

For now, most of the classes offered on the subscription service for Bali are located in Canggu, involving up and coming fitness studios such as Odyssey MVMT, Empire Fit Club and F45 Training Seminyak.

As for plans to expand to other Indonesian cities, Canavan says they’ll focus on Bali for the next few months, but added that plans to do so are not too far ahead.
