Prosecutor demands 2.5 years for Russian woman who hid cocaine inside her undergarments
A prosecutor at the Denpasar District Court has demanded that Mariia Sablina, a Russian woman arrested in May for alleged possession of cocaine, be sentenced to two years and six months in jail for her alleged crime.
“We demand a sentencing of two years and six months in prison for defendant Mariia Sablina,” prosecutor Kadek Wahyudi said yesterday, as quoted by Tribun-Bali.
Kadek argued that Sablina is guilty of possession of class I narcotics — which includes cocaine — under Article 127 of the 2009 Narcotics Law, which carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison.
According to local media reports, Sablina was arrested earlier in May in Kerobokan, North Kuta, after authorities received a tip-off about her drug use.
During the arrest, police had found a package containing 0.68 grams of cocaine hidden inside her undergarments.
Sablina’s trial is scheduled to continue next week.
