What might have simply started as a fun night-out with the boys in Bali could potentially have professional repercussions for one rugby player.

A New Zealand man believed to be Nelson Asofa-Solomona, who plays for Australian rugby team Melbourne Storm, was allegedly involved in a violent street brawl in front of a nightclub over the weekend, as seen in footage circulating on social media.

In the video, the man identified as Asofa-Solomona can be seen throwing punches on another guy and pushing the fight to the middle of traffic, while being watched by a crowd that had gathered on the busy street. The incident reportedly happened close to La Favela nightclub in Seminyak.

Authorities in Bali, usually pretty quick on street brawls involving foreign tourists on the island, did not seem to have arrested nor apprehended anyone over the incident.

In a media statement, Melbourne Storm said they have launched a full investigation into what occurred.

“Melbourne Storm has reported an incident involving a member of our NRL squad currently on holidays in Bali to the NRL’s Integrity Unit,” the statement said, referring to Australia’s National Rugby League.

According to a report from AFP, Asofa-Solomona only got involved after a Melbourne Storm teammate, identified as Suliasi Vunivalu, was punched in an unprovoked attack.

There have been no reports on injuries sustained by those involved in the alleged brawl.
