Susan Leslie O’Brien, an Australian woman who was arrested in August for allegedly hitting a motorcycle with her car and killing the rider, reportedly tried to chase away several reporters at the Jembrana Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.

O’Brien was declared a suspect by the Jembrana Police soon after the accident, which took place on Aug. 14 on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk Bypass. Police said that O’Brien had been attempting to overtake a car when her car collided with a motorbike. The rider, a 19-year-old man from Banyuwangi, East Java, reportedly died at the scene.

She was taken to the Jembrana Prosecutor’s Office yesterday, as authorities handed over her case to the prosecutors, where she allegedly yelled at reporters who were there, as reported by the Jawa Pos network.

“What is funny?” O’Brien was quoted as saying, while she allegedly chased away a number of reporters and forbade them from taking photos.

According to the Jawa Pos network, the reporters were at the scene to cover another trial, and was not there to report on O’Brien’s.

Several members of staff from the prosecutor’s office then proceeded to calm her down and took her back to Jembrana prison.

Previously, the police officially declared O’Brien a suspect for vehicular manslaughter. Under Indonesia’s 2009 Traffic Law, O’Brien faces a maximum of six years’ imprisonment and a maximum fine of IDR12 million (US$842). Her first court date has not yet been set.
