Orphans in Bali allegedly suffered years of sexual abuse by orphanage director, police investigating
Police in Bali’s Buleleng regency are investigating the case of an orphanage director who allegedly sexually assaulted children under his care for years.
Gede Anggastia from Buleleng’s Community Development Supervisory Board told Nusa Bali that it was suspected that the orphanage director, identified by his initials KP, abused multiple victim over the years.
“We received reports that he targets teenage orphans, who he will force himself on. Most of these children are afraid because the orphanage is where they live, how they survive and get schooling,” Gede said.
Nusa Bali also reported that several orphans left the orphanage after suffering years of sexual abuse, and only recently reported the incident to the police.
Buleleng Police spokesman Iptu Gede Sumarjaya confirmed that they had received the reports of sexual abuse and said that the Women and Child Protection Unit (PPA) is currently collecting evidence, including statements from the victims.
“We are collecting evidence right now, and a psychologist is accompanying the victims to ensure that they won’t be further traumatized,” Iptu told Nusa Bali, adding that the police is committed to handle this case thoroughly and carefully.
According to a report from the Jawa Pos network, one of the victims is currently undergoing treatment because of the psychological trauma she went through.
KP reportedly sexually assaulted the victim late in the evening, when the other children were asleep. The girl said she remained quiet about the abuse out of fear.
“The victim was afraid of being kicked out, fearful of the threat. The orphanage director has been doing this lecherous act for years,” Gede told the Jawa Pos network.
