Balinese woman sentenced to 1 year for spreading hoax about baby kidnapping
The Gianyar Court on Monday sentenced a Balinese Woman, Ni Wayan Sukerti, to one year in prison for filing a false police report last year in which she claimed that her baby daughter had been kidnapped.
“We sentence the defendant to one year in jail,” said Dori Melfin, who heads the panel of judges, as quoted by Radar Bali.
Gianyar Court spokesperson, Wawan Edi Prasetyo, said Wayan was found to have violated Article 242 of the criminal code, which regulates false reporting, as reported by Nusa Bali.
Last November, Wayan file a report with the police regarding the alleged kidnapping of her daughter.
Wayan claimed that two unknown motorcycle riders had committed the crime. But after further investigation, police found that no kidnapping attempt on her child had taken place.
According to a report from Okezone, Wayan made up the whole thing in an attempt to scare her older child and was initially inspired by news of kidnappings she had seen on social media platforms.
