Police have arrested a suspect named Kadek Supartika, also known as Ucil, who allegedly broke into nine houses in Buleleng. Authorities say he was arrested after he tried to evade capture, leading authorities to shoot him in the leg.

According to a report by the Jawa Pos network, Ucil tried to escape when the police arrived at his residence in Buleleng regency’s Kalianget village.

“However, he had to give up his attempt after he was shot in his left leg trying to evade arrest,” police commissioner I Wayan Suka was quoted as saying in the report.

According to authorities, Ucil, who is from East Java, used a dagger to pick locks and usually targeted empty houses. According to Wayan Suka, he had stolen a variety of things including jewelry, phones and laptops. However, the police are still collecting evidence, according to a report by Nusa Bali.

He is also known to have stolen from local shops in Buleleng, police said in a statement. Ucil also mentions having had a partner during one of his robberies who has been identified as Komang Adi Lesmana, or Mang Adi. After some questioning, police said Mang Adi only dropped off Ucil and then waited in the latter’s residence during one of his break-ins.

Ucil reportedly spent a year in prison in 2016, for breaking into a gold shop. Under Indonesia’s criminal code, he could face up to seven years in prison for burglary.
