Indonesian actress Nana Mirdad’s heartbreaking discovery of a deceased baby in Sanur has shocked the region, with the baby likely to have been abandoned before it died.

Nana, who has over 2.9 million followers on Instagram, first shared about finding the baby on Friday.

In her post, she said she found the baby as she was about to go on a morning walk near Sanur beach. While there was no photo of the scene or the baby, she wrote quite a graphic description of what she found.

“Whoever, whoever gave birth and abandoned this baby naked on the street for dogs to eat and cars to run over that all of its insides came out. Trust that karma exists,” Nana wrote.

Nana said the abandoned baby had attracted dogs in the area by the time she got there, and that there was a lot of blood on the scene. She said she screamed when she arrived at the scene, which attracted the attention of local village officials who then handled the situation.

“Why must the baby be left on the beach? There are still others who would be willing to take care, protect, love. Whatever the reason, I don’t think I can ever judge. That’s purely their business with God,” Nana wrote in another story post on Instagram.

“But as a mother, my heart feels like it’s been torn apart. As a human being, peace suddenly vanished and it will take time to heal from what I saw this morning.”

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has confirmed the discovery to local media outlets, with an official explaining that there was nothing on the scene to help identify the baby. Officials reportedly wrapped the baby with a cloth and put it inside a cloth-padded cardboard box to take to the Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar on Friday morning.

The 35-year-old actress eventually wrote a heartfelt open letter to the deceased baby, professing her feelings of guilt for finding the baby when it was “too late.”

“I keep feeling guilty because maybe if I had woken up earlier I could have found you sooner… But I know God loves you. I may not be anyone but I apologize that you felt such enormous pain and had to struggle on your own when you couldn’t have fend for yourself,” Nana said.

“I hope you are at peace, in the embrace of God and the angels … Rest in peace, little soul.”
