Police in Bali last week arrested an Interpol fugitive from the United States, alleging that the American has been hiding out on the island while producing and selling porn to make money.

“He works by making porn films, to find money via the internet. That’s one of his ways to survive in Bali and he communicates a lot with local residents,” Bali Police Chief Petrus Reinhard Golose said on Friday.

The fugitive, 50-year-old Marcus Beam, is wanted for alleged investment fraud in the US. He is accused of embezzling around US$500,000 from investors in Chicago, using the money for his personal and business expenses instead of placing them in investment funds, according to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

According to Petrus, Beam has been in Bali since January, during which time he and his female friend have been uploading personal adult photos and videos online to cover his costs of living. He has moved several times and used different identities while in Bali, police added.

Beam was arrested at a villa in Badung regency last Thursday, where authorities seized five cellphones and 14 sex toys, among other things.

There is no official extradition treaty between Indonesia and the US, but Petrus said Beam would be sent back to the US under an agreement between the two countries’ police forces.
