The pair allegedly behind the child sex trafficking case that was uncovered in Sanur earlier this year could be facing well over a decade in prison after the prosecutor in their case demanded they be sentenced to 15 years on Monday.

Ni Komang Suci, 49, and Ni Wayan Aristiani, 51, were arrested by Bali Police after a Jan. 4 raid revealed five child prostitutes, trafficked from Bekasi, West Java, displayed like objects behind glass as part of a backyard brothel operation in the Sanur neighborhood.

Prosecutor Purwanti Murtiasih told the court this week that Komang acted as a procuress for Wayan’s brothel operation, and was connected to the victims through a woman named Cindy Belvia Sari, who used to work for her as a call girl, as reported by Tribun-Bali.

The report laid out that Cindy promised the girls IDR 10 million (USD 689) in monthly salary with benefits, and proceeded to fly them to Bali from Jakarta in October of last year.

The five victims, identified by their initials, NW, AA, DH, PS and NP, are between 15 and 18 years old. Wayan reportedly agreed to provide a spot for the girls in the brothel, but only if they were at least 18 years old, and that clients must pay IDR 200,000 (USD 13.78) by the hour. In addition, the girls were told to reach a target of seven customers daily.

“The defendant told the child victims to say that they are 19 years old, should the question arise,” prosecutor Purwanti said, as quoted by Tribun-Bali.

Purwanti said Wayan did not bother to check their documentation and merely guessed their respective age by looking.

“While they were working as call girls, the victims ‘served’ many male clients, but they did not get the money and benefits promised by Cindy Belvia Sari; each of them only get IDR 80,000 per hour if they got a client,” Purwanti explained, adding that they also had to pay back their plane tickets from Jakarta and rent to Komang.

The police are reportedly still searching for Cindy. Meanwhile, Komang and Wayan have been charged under Indonesia’s Law on Anti-Trafficking and Child Protection Law. Wayan faces an additional charge under the country’s criminal code. Kompas.com reported that both Komang and Wayan profited a great deal from exploiting the child victims. In fact, Denpasar Integrated Care Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2PT2), a human rights group that assisted with the arrest, said in January that Wayan’s brothel operation as a whole could’ve garnered a gross turnover of up to IDR 2.7 billion (USD 186,036) per month, before deductions and profit share.
