Police say the infant, estimated to have been three days old when found, weighs 3kg. He had been wrapped in a blanket inside the duffel bag. Fortunately, doctors say the infant is healthy.

“We are conducting an investigation to find out either who did this or his parents. We are hoping to find out more soon,” said North Kuta police chief, Dewa Gede Anom Danujaya, as quoted in a statement.

For now, the baby is being treated at a local clinic, according to a report from Detik.

Child abandonment is not common in Bali, but there seem to be a growing number of cases in recent years of abandoned newborns and fetuses being discovered. Earlier in January, a newborn baby boy was discovered at a child care center, seemingly dumped there only minutes after his birth.
